Corporate Debentures (NCD)
Several Corporates issue Non-Convertible Debentures (NCDs) to raise funds to meet their business needs. Such issue of Debentures is governed by the provisions under the Companies Act and SEBI Regulations. Till recently, trading in Corporate Debt market was limited to institutional players only, with practically no retail participation. However, of late, retail participation has increased and there is fair amount of liquidity for NCDs, which have a good credit rating and are listed on the Stock Exchanges. Investors who are looking for fixed/assured returns may invest in such NCDs as an alternate to OR in addition to bank fixed deposits. Investment may be made through Shreem in Primary Market (through IPO). Shreem can also source large lots (Rs. 10 lacs and above) of NCDs in secondary market, to meet the requirement of HNI clients.
Corporate Fixed Deposits
All of us are quite familiar with Bank Fixed Deposits. Company/Corporate Fixed Deposits are deposits, which are accepted by a Company/Corporate, for a fixed tenure, at the pre-agreed rate of interest. The rate of interest gets determined by the tenure of the deposit as well as other factors e.g Credit Rating of the Company, Market Conditions etc. These deposits are unsecured and non-transferable in nature. In case of a default by the Company, the investor has no direct claim over the assets of the company. This makes Company Fixed Deposit a comparatively risky investment option. However, these deposits are still quite popular as they provide higher rate of interest compared to Bank Fixed Deposits. While making such deposits, the Investors shall ensure that the Company/its borrowings are duly rated by a rating agency and the rating is above the comfort level of the Investor. Generally, clients who are averse to equity/risk and wish to invest only in fixed income instruments are interested in such fixed deposits. Shreem can assist investors with such investments.
Capital Gain Bonds
Under the provisions of the section 54 EC Income Tax Act, 1961, benefits in Income Tax are available to persons who invest (within specified time) the capital gains arising out of sale of long term assets, in bonds which are notified by the Government as “long term specified assets”. To remain eligible for the tax benefits, these bonds shall be held at least for a period of three years from the date of purchase. Individuals who have sold their residential property and do not wish to reinvest the sale proceed in Real Estate, may use this option for tax planning purposes. Shreem can assist investors with such investments/planning.
Tax Free Bonds
Several entities, with the appropriate Government approvals, issue Bonds where the interest income on such bonds is not liable to income tax in the hands of the recipient under the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961, as amended. These bonds are generally issued for a duration of 10/15/20 years. However, all such Bonds are duly listed on BSE/NSE, and have witnessed fair amount of trading in recent past and hence are fairly liquid. In other words, Investors need not hold these Bonds till maturity and may sell them, through their broker, as and when they need liquidity. Individuals / HUF / Corporates who fall in the higher tax bracket are the ideal customers for such Bonds. Investment may be made through Shreem in Primary Market (through IPO). Shreem can also source large lots (Rs. 10 lacs and above) of these Bonds in secondary market, to meet the requirement of HNI clients.
Alternate Investment Funds (AIF)
In India, Alternate Investment Funds (AIF) are registered/governed by SEBI. Generally, anything alternate to traditional form of investments gets classified as ‘Alternate Investments’. AIF are privately pooled investment funds, not being Mutual Funds, Collective Investment Schemes, etc. AIF include Venture Capital Fund, Private Equity Fund, Debt Fund, Commodity Fund, Hedge Fund etc. , Shreem can assist its HNI clients with investments in such AIF products as well as Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), Infrastructure Investment Trust (InVit) etc.
